When Talk Therapy Isn’t Enough
You’ve done the journaling. You’ve gone to therapy. You’ve tried to make sense of the patterns you keep finding yourself in—but you still feel stuck.
Maybe it’s anxiety that won’t let up, a heavy sadness that lingers, or tension in your body you can’t seem to release. Perhaps you’ve worked hard to understand your past, but your body still reacts like danger is near. Or maybe you can’t even name what’s wrong—only that something doesn’t feel right.
Sometimes our pain is stored in places words can’t reach. That’s not a failure—it’s a sign your brain is protecting you the best way it knows how. But that protection can become a trap, keeping you from fully healing or moving forward.
If traditional talk therapy hasn’t brought the relief you need, Brainspotting may be the approach that helps you unlock what’s been held in your nervous system.

Why It Feels So Hard to Heal
Many people feel frustrated or discouraged after doing therapy “the right way” but still struggling. You may notice:
Emotional triggers that feel overwhelming or out of proportion
Chronic stress or tension in the body
Feeling stuck in the same patterns despite your efforts
Trouble sleeping or difficulty concentrating
A sense of disconnection from yourself or others
A deep feeling that something unresolved is blocking your growth
These symptoms aren’t because you’re not trying hard enough. They’re signs that your healing may require a deeper, more body-based approach—and Brainspotting is designed to meet you there.
Brainspotting Helps You Heal at the Source
Brainspotting is a powerful, brain-body therapy that helps you access and release trauma, emotional pain, and unconscious blocks by working with where you feel those issues in your body—not just in your thoughts.
It helps your brain and nervous system complete unfinished healing processes—without needing to relive the trauma.
At PFHC, our trauma-informed clinicians use Brainspotting to support clients with anxiety, PTSD, grief, chronic pain, performance blocks, and more.
How Brainspotting Works
Brainspotting is based on the idea that “where you look affects how you feel.” During a session, your therapist helps you find an eye position—or “brainspot”—that connects to the part of your brain holding emotional or physical distress. From there, you’ll focus inward while your brain does the work of unwinding what’s been stuck.
Unlike traditional therapy, Brainspotting doesn’t require you to tell your whole story. The process is gentle, intuitive, and client-led. Many people find it surprisingly powerful—even without knowing exactly why a certain brainspot brings up emotion or sensation.
Brainspotting allows for deep processing at the subcortical level—where trauma and habits live—so change happens from the inside out. Clients often report relief, insight, and more ease in their bodies and minds, even after a few sessions.
Why Work With PFHC for Brainspotting?
At Portage Family Healing Center, we take a holistic approach to mental health—one that honors your body, mind, and spirit. Our clinicians are trained in Brainspotting and other somatic, trauma-informed therapies, and we tailor every session to your unique needs and readiness.
You don’t need to know exactly what’s wrong to start healing. We welcome clients who are highly self-aware and those who are still trying to find the words. We’re here to help you gently access what’s beneath the surface, in a way that feels grounded and supportive.
Whether you’re dealing with trauma, anxiety, or simply a sense that you’re not living fully in your life, Brainspotting can help restore connection—to yourself, your purpose, and your peace.
We serve children, teens, and adults—and we create space for all experiences, identities, and healing journeys.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. Brainspotting works with your body and nervous system, not just your memory. You don’t need to remember or talk through everything. The therapy meets you wherever you are.
-
Both are brain-based therapies, but Brainspotting is often quieter and more intuitive. You maintain a fixed gaze on a brainspot, while your therapist holds space for your process. EMDR is more structured and uses bilateral stimulation. Some clients try both and choose what resonates more for them.
-
Yes. Brainspotting can be used for performance enhancement, emotional growth, and creative breakthroughs—not just trauma. Many clients use it to release blocks or gain clarity around next steps in life.
-
Sessions are calm, quiet, and client-centered. You’ll find a comfortable eye position, notice what’s happening in your body, and follow what comes up internally. Your therapist will be attuned and present with you, but you guide the process. Many people describe it as grounding, emotionally releasing, or surprisingly insightful.
